Finding Answers in Individual Counseling Sessions, and Couples Counseling
COME TO BE MORE AT HOME WITH YOURSELF AND OTHERS.
COME TO BE MORE AT HOME WITH YOURSELF AND OTHERS.
Are you seeking to understand yourself better? Are you looking to make sense of your relationship dynamics? Do you wish things were better, but you don't know how to get there? You CAN feel empowered by an expanding of your understanding, gathering insight, and educating the choices you make in how you decide to live your life. I work with adults and couples to help make sense of obstacles, understand how personal histories effect life today, and assist clients to become more at home with themselves. This is done in an atmosphere where you are accepted for who you are.
Many people feel uncomfortable considering therapy as an option for themselves. It can be difficult asking for help, believing that asking for help means we are inadequate in some way. In a do-it-yourself culture, reaching out to others can cause us to feel like we are less than, but trying to meet our own needs is actually a strength. We can discuss your goals for individual counseling sessions or couples counseling.
I approach each client's individual counseling sessions with no prescribed interventions. My work combines cognitive therapies, strength-based work, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness while accessing somatic work, trauma focus, and taking elements from many schools of thought as they best fit into what would be most effective.
My approach in couples counseling is taken largely from Emotionally Focused Therapy to guide the distressed couple away from rigid, harmful, and destructive ways of reacting and toward sensitive, flexible ones that support intimate and secure bonds. I also use practical techniques taken from the IMAGO modality. This type of therapy is designed with more practical exercises for couples working to develop an understanding of their partner's and their own emotional reality.
Women's Issues: It may sound strange that man would say that he is keyed into woman's issues, but I have sat with many women in my role as clinician and have an appreciation for the challenges that women face ranging from personal traumas, abuse, grief, IVF, post partum issues, menopause, self esteem, and many others. As a couple's therapist I have also gained the perspective of what women are looking for in their intimate relationships.
Men's issues: Men, like everyone else, experience a wide range of emotions and challenges in life. Yet, the societal pressure to appear strong and stoic can sometimes prevent men from seeking help when they need it. Therapy provides a safe space for men to explore their unique issues. Men often use therapy to navigate work stress, relationship issues, and explore sexual concerns. Therapy can improve interpersonal skills and strengthen relationships, encourage men to explore their feelings, improve emotional intelligence, and communicate their emotions effectively. Substance abuse and sex addiction can affect men profoundly. Therapy provides tools to look into the roots of addiction and to address anger issues, or improve self-regulation. They can use it to reflect on life purpose, discover personal values, and work towards self-fulfillment. Therapy helps men set and achieve personal goals, fostering self-improvement, and empowering them to create meaningful changes in their lives.
